Fáilte go Baile Átha Cliath***

Howya!

So, our next stop on our journey brought us to fair old Dublin! We actually stayed in an Airbnb outside of Dublin in county Meath at Dunboyne. It was cheaper to stay outside of the city and the public transport brought us into the city centre in forty minutes or less (depending on traffic and delays).

What did Vannie and I get up to while in Ireland you ask? Well let's have a look at the first couple days, shall we....

Day 1: Hello, Dublin!

We arrived in Dublin from Glasgow at half nine in the morning. It was a decent flight and very quick. If I recall correctly, it took us a mere forty-five minutes to get to Dublin from Glasgow. We flew Ryanair and it was our first experience travelling with them. Anyway, enough about that, on to what we got up to once we arrived in Dublin's fair city.

Our Airbnb host for the week offered to pick us up from the airport for a fee and we agreed. Made more sense than hauling our packs around early in the morning and cheaper than a taxi. She collected us from the airport and brought us back to hers where we dropped our bags off and had a cuppa*.

After sharing a quick chat, I decided I wanted to go out and Vannie said she wanted to nap. However, things worked out a bit differently.

We had discovered that our mobiles no longer worked and had to get a new sim. I had offered to go but then our host said that she would bring us to the mall and we could have a quick look round the phone shops (she had to go return some items as well). I said okay and asked Vannie if she wanted to come and she agreed so off we went.

As we were driving to the mall though, our host asked if we had any other plans or if we would like to join her on a tour up the coast and to a castle. Um, hello, did you say castle?!

Of course we said yes to the castle and coastal drive/stops!

We ended up going to Malahide Castle & Gardens as our first stop. The castle there was beautiful. We didn't go in as it was full of tour groups and it also cost €20 as entry fee. So, we walked about around the castle and through the lovely garden grounds just exploring the surroundings and soaking up the afternoon sunshine.

Malahide Castle - Malahide, Ireland

Our next stop brought us along the coast through Malahide and Portmarnock and into Howth, where we parked and walked along the pier. The weather was perfect for a leisurely stroll so we took full advantage of that fact and stayed in Howth, walking about for a couple hours before packing up and heading back to our hosts place to shower, eat and get some well earned rest.

A leisurely stroll along the pier/coast.

As you can see, our first day was packed with happenings. Vannie and I appreciated it though because we had planned on going up to Howth and along the coast ourselves one of the days we were in Ireland.

Since we did the northern portion of the coastal towns in Dublin on our first day in town, we ended up exploring the southern coastal towns and stopping at a beach! However, that is a story for another post.

I will leave you with Day 1 and continue writing the other days tomorrow since my WiFi isn't great at the moment. I will also add photos as soon as I can so check back!

Until next time wanderers,

Slán! **
